Buyers and sellers Flooding can be a serious problem for homeowners, and many times your insurance policy won’t cover flooding damage.
It is imperative to know the status of your home and to know if your home is located in a regulated floodplain. In Mecklenburg county, this may change within the next six months to a year and you may need to check the status. Your insurance coverage will need to be adjusted accordingly to adequately cover your needs for your home.
Flood zones are designated areas determined to be prone to flooding. For more information about the flood plain you can log into the flood zone interactive map. Click on Is my property in a flood zone, then Flood Zone Interactive Map and type in the property address. Areas shown in light blue or gray are in a regulated floodplain. Compare the location of your home to the boundaries of the flood zone map. If your property is within the boundaries, it is in the flood zone. Some flood zones are labeled as greater risks than others. The maps provide details on which flood insurance risk zone your property is in.
